After lot of speculations, it has been finally confirmed that AIIMS will be set up in Kamrup and not in Raha, as was earlier decided. This was confirmed by State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday. He thanked Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Union Cabinet for approving the setting up of AIIMS in Kamrup through a post in Twitter.
In the post, Himanta informed that the total cost of the project is Rs 1123 crores and it will be set up under Pradhan Mantri Swastha Suraksha Yojana. The project is slated to be completed in a period of four years from date of approval. The hospital will have 750 beds, trauma centre facilities, medical college, nursing college, residential complexes and allied facilities/services.
The hospital will provide super specialty health care to the population. It will also create a large pool of doctors and other health workers in the region who can serve primary and secondary level institutions/facilities being created under National Health Mission.
