Bonoowa Luxury offers handmade lifestyle products made by the talented Rinky Roy. She reveals that her interest in sketching and art started when she was very young. She especially felt inspired watching her parents get involved in making something or the other whenever they had some free time.
Lifestyle accessory designer and soap maker, Rinky was born in Jogighopa. In the early years of her childhood, her family travelled a lot all across the country on account of her father working in the Air Force. It was only after his retirement that the family moved back to Assam.
They finally settled in Jogighopa. During her high school days, she travelled for an hour every day from Jogighopa to Bongaigaon because she was enrolled in DPS, Dhaligaon. After completing 12th, she joined Cotton College. ‘I personally wanted to pursue a career in the creative field but after pressure from my parents, I had to sign up for BA in anthropology.’ During her first year in Cotton College, she appeared for NIFT entrance without the consent of her parents. ‘At that time, my parents had a very vague idea about the design industry and its potential.’
She got through and joined NIFT in 2009, specializing in lifestyle accessory design. ‘NIFT , my alma mater, gave me the opportunity and knowledge of working in the grassroot level of my field. After graduating from NIFT, I worked as a freelancer and participated as an Installation Artiste in Metropolis. I also designed the main entrance at the venue of Ziro Festival Of Music 2014. I even participated as a designer for Miss Northeast 2013.’
Handmade with Love
Bonoowa Luxury started in 2015. The main idea is to make and design products by hand, products that denote simplicity and luxury. ‘Our ideology is very simple, it is to provide sustainable products which are one-of-a-kind. Our products range from handmade notebooks , soaps , gift box , handmade cards, etc.’
What makes Bonoowa stand apart from other handmade labels out there is the option of customization. You can customise the products according to your needs. Their packaging, done in the studio, is also handmade.
The notebooks are unique because they are made of handmade paper and the artworks on the cover is original. And believe it or not, they are actually hand bound in the studio.
If you are a fan of handmade soaps then their soaps are a must try. The best part is you can customize the soaps by including essential oils or ingredients of your choosing.
The Road Ahead
In the future, Rinky plans to extend the range of products in the handmade cosmetic section. ‘Along with soaps, there will be lipbalms, handmade perfumes etc. We also plan to introduce a collection of exclusive handbags.’
Bonoowa Luxury products are available at Maati Centre and 11th Avenue cafe Bistro.
If you happen to be in Guwahati, you can place the order, and visit the Bonoowa studio to learn more about how the products are made.
