Militant group United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent)’s activities in BTAD will be hit following the killing of Ramesh Bora, a self styled commander of the outfit. The wanted militant was gunned down by security forces in Udalguri district.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint operation was launched by the army and police in the district where the militant – identified as Ramesh Bora – was gunned down in an exchange of fire with the security forces on Thursday, a defence spokesperson said.
Bora was the deputy of another hardcore ULFA(I) militant Rajan Deka and the self-styled area commander for the outfit in Udalgudi and Darrang districts, he said. Army recovered a grenade, a 9mm pistol, six 9mm live rounds and approximately Rs 6 lakh in Indian currency from the encounter site. The area has been now cordoned off and a search operation has been launched by the army.
