One who thinks positively is not shackled by challenges towards the path of success. A positive attitude lends to confidence, determination, perseverance, and hard work, all of which helps take one forward on the road to success. Positive thinking can help you cope up with the daily affairs of life. It makes it easier to avoid worries and negative thinking.
Positive attitude can be developed. A child who watches his parents’ work hard may develop a similar attitude. Parents have a great role to play. They must display confidence, self-belief and hope, especially in difficult situations, so that the child imitates these qualities. Likewise, the role of teachers in building the confidence of students and telling them about the importance of positive thinking is also vital. Students should be encouraged and rewarded by teachers for their hard work and should be rebuked when they are not responsible or serious about their studies.
In my own life, I have experienced the effect of positive thinking. I faced a lot of difficulties when my father was confined to his room because of his chronic kidney disease. My life came to a pause all of a sudden. We nearly lost hope of his survival. It was a tiresome marathon treatment. I had to be like his shadow which is why I could not sit for the class X final exam. I also lost two consecutive academic years of my life. But I knew that God had something better in mind for me.
The words ‘stay positive, relax, and just go with the flow, at the end all the dots will connect’ stayed with me all this time. We were broke. Despite the challenges, I kept my cool and also thought of a small business to meet with our day to day expenses. As per my father’s advice, I communicated with a saw mill owner and came to a mutual agreement to sell firewood in our locality. The condition was to sell and pay his dues. Somehow I could mitigate our financial crunch.
My father was a skilled artisan. He made beautiful handicrafts out of waste material. I provided him with the required materials. This helped give him a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. He survived not only for a few months as we had expected but for five long years he presided over us from his 4X6 bed as the head of our family. He was an undaunted fighter and also a source of inspiration. He did not let his physical and mental conditions dictate his life. That was possible only because of his adherence of positivity.
To develop positive attitude, push out negative thoughts and replace them instead with happy thoughts. It’s a matter of choice. Choose to be optimistic. Search for a reason to smile often. Have faith in yourself and try to associate with good people.
How can negative thinking makes someone underprivileged? To answer this, I would like to share an experience faced by my brother in law. He applied for a HR Executive post in a private limited company. A few days preceding to his interview, he started believing that the other applicants were better and more competent than him. His self-esteem was low and he considered himself a failure. On the day of the interview, he got up late, and was dismayed to discover that the shirt he planned to wear was dirty, and the pant needed ironing. So, he wore the wrinkled shirt and reached very late. His negative thinking dominated the whole interview right from the beginning. Therefore, during the interview he was tense, and worried about his shirt which made it difficult for him to focus on the interview. The result was predictable. Had he been positive, his approach would have been different.
The very essence of positive thinking means to be hopeful for a better result. A determined and dedicated person finds his way out despite all complexities and he finds solutions to every problem and one day he achieves his cherished goal. Where there is a will, there is a way. A confident person strikes out the word ‘impossible’ from his dictionary.
