According to multiple sources, about 744 new members have been asked to join the Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which organizes the annual Oscar awards. On that list, there are a lot of names from India including Priyanka Chopra, Amitabh Bachchan, Goutam Ghose, Buddhadeb Dasgupta and more.
Among the many names, there is one talented individual from the Northeast as well. He is none other than Amrit Pritam Dutta who became a household name when he assisted Oscar winning sound designer Resul Pookutty, in Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘ but that is not the only feather in his cap. Some big banner films that he has been associated with are PK, Enthiran, Ra.One, Highway and the list goes on.
About the invite to join the Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, he says, ‘It is definitely wonderful news. It was something that I had never expected in my lifetime.’
The idea behind inviting talented individuals from all across the globe to join the Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is an attempt to increase diversity. Amrit feels that can only be a good thing, ‘It is great that they are inviting talented people from different parts of the globe. It will definitely help bring in different and fresh perspectives. We will also be able to vote for deserving films in the Foreign Film Category and that will make a lot of difference.’
