Four days after Pi Lalruotmawi of Manipur’s Parvachawm village was swept away by the strong currents of Tuivai River which divides Manipur and Mizoram, youth volunteers are yet to locate her. Sources said that Pi Lalruotmawi was swept away on May 29 evening at around 6 pm when she along with some villagers tried to cross the river. Sources also added that there has been no help from Manipur government or officials. There has been no word from Tipaimukh MLA and other elected representatives on what they are doing to recover the woman, who is presumed to be dead by now.
Around 150 Hmar Youth Association volunteers from Parvachawm village and another 70 Young Mizo Association volunteers from Mizoram’s Chiepui village have joined the search operation. The youths from Tlangnuom and Khawlien also conducted search operations in sections of the river that passes through their village areas.
‘The river is dirty and its level is rising since yesterday due to rains. It has become very difficult for volunteers to work under the situation. However, they are not giving up,’ one volunteer said.
