Tigmanshu Dhulia’s upcoming movie ‘Raag Desh’ based on the INA trials and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s fight for Indian independence became the first Indian film to have its premiere at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. President Pranab Mukherjee also met the cast and crew of the movie including Assam lad Kenny Basumatary who is playing the role of Subhas Chandra Bose in the film. Though Mukherjee couldn’t watch the movie due to other commitments, he told Basumatary that the latter had physical resemblance with Bose.
Speaking about the experience at a press meet today, Basumatary said, ‘ It was a humbling and amazing experience. I have a new respect for our institutions and our constitution, and the numerous people who fought for our freedom. Suhasini Ali, daughter of Prem and Lakshmi Sehgal was very happy with the film. She complimented me on my work, saying that she was initially apprehensive about how her parents and Netaji would be portrayed.’
Kenny said that he had given audition for ‘Yaara’ another film directed by Dhulia. Later while doing ‘Yaara’, Dhulia started ‘Raag Desh’ and he chose Kenny to play Netaji.
The press meet was also attended by actor Vijay Varma of ‘Pink’ who is playing an important role in ‘Raag Desh’. ‘Raag Desh’ is releasing this Friday and might be screened at around 40 theatres across North East.
