The Assam edition of the North East India Fashion Week was held recently at Assam Engineering Institute Field, Chandmari, Guwahati. Organized by Affluent Ray of Light, the Assam edition christened ‘The Khadi Movement – Assam Edition’ was an insight to what’s in store for guests at the three-day fashion extravaganza which will held in Itanagar later this year.
The main idea was to inspire and encourage upcoming handicraft artisans and designers of the region who are working exclusively towards the promotion of Northeast fabrics and culture. Over 50 designers and indigenous weavers participated in the Assam edition including Ratan Yak, Hibu Ollo, Tine Mena, Milli Indira Dangngo, Nabam Chunkap, Roslyn Tokbipi, Dimonty Basumatary, Anju Hazarika, Uday Kherkatary, Rupert Lynrah, Laltha Biki, Gloria Ovung, Menty Jamir and more.
‘We at ARL are also trying our best to promote fashion tourism or culture tourism and explore the possible role that fashion industry can play in the Northeast tourism sector.’ Yana Ngoba, fashion designer, chief operating officer and founder of Affluent Ray of Light.
