Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants shot dead one person accusing him of being a police informer at a remote village in South Garo Hills district, police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred late on Tuesday night and within 12 hours of the police busting a GNLA camp at Gareringdi village in the district and gunning down one of their cadres.
‘They shot dead a middle aged man near Dambuk Bazaar and left a note stating that he was a police informer,’ district Superintendent of Police A T Sangma said. Dambuk Bazaar is close to the international border with Bangladesh.
Sangma said a gunshot was heard close to midnight and police found the body early this morning. The victim was identified as Olget R. Marak, 53. The militants shot Marak in the head, chest, legs and hand. The militant also pasted a note near the body accusing Marak of being a police informer. A manhunt has been launched to nab the killers.
