If any Government employee of Assam, was thinking of dumping their ailing parents in old-age homes, they should fall in line. Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has decided to introduce Assam Employees Parental Care Bill soon which will make it mandatory for government servants to take care of their parents.
Addressing a press meet today, Sarma said, ‘We shall introduce Assam Employees’ Parental Care bill making it mandatory for employees’ to take care of their parents and divyang siblings. As per the bill, if government employees don’t look after parents & divyang siblings,10% to 15% of their salary would be deducted and given to them.’
He also announced that a bill to upgrade three important colleges into Universities will be introduced in next Assembly Session. Hojai College will become Rabindranath Tagore University; Bajali College will become Bhattadev University and Bihpuria College as Madhavdev University.
He added, ‘A new cultural university will be established in Majuli. A Bill to this effect will also be introduced in next Assembly session.’
