Speculations regarding the expansion of Sarbananda Sonowal’s cabinet might end soon as the Chief Minister is supposed to take a call regarding this very soon. Chief Minister Sonowal and State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have flown to Delhi to discuss the matter with BJP President Amit Shah. It is expected that the expansion of cabinet will be announced by Independence Day.
Sources said that Sonowal has already handed over the list of names he wants in his cabinet to BJP leader Ram Madhav. Now, the list will be passed only after the approval of Amit Shah. Though the capacity of Sonowal’s cabinet is 18, till only 10 ministers have been inducted. As a result of this, many ministers are handling multiple portfolios which are inadvertently hampering their performance.
While there are many contenders for the post of ministers, Siddartha Bhattacharya, Tapan Gogoi, Pijush Hazarika and Bhabesh Kalita are the frontrunners. From AGP, the contenders for the coveted post are Phani Bhushan Choudhury and Ramendra Narayan Kalita and from BPF, Chandan Brahma and Immanuel Mooshahary.
State BJP President Ranjit Das has said that none of the present ministers will be dropped though there might be some change in their portfolios.
