Assamese megastar Zubeen Garg whose recent action thriller ‘Mission China’ is running across packed houses and breaking box office records left and right, however had to apologize for a comment he made on an Indian Army Major. Garg’s apparently insulting comment miffed lot of people and a retired IAF sergeant even filed a formal complaint to the Defence Minister of India and high ranking defence officials via email against Garg.
Garg while returning to Guwahati from Delhi was reportedly asked to take off his cap by a defence personnel at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. While Zubeen refused to do so, he also told mediapersons with his trademark nonchalance that he wished to hit the army personnel. ‘ An army person asked me to take off my cap. I told him you are Major but I am Colonel. So, you should salute me’ he said.

However, his comments earned a lot of flak even from his fans which has led him to apologize on Facebook. In the Facebook post, he wrote, ‘Have seen adverse reactions on my recent comments at the airport. Some people are arguing it to be a defamation of the dignity of Indian army. It was entirely unintentional and nothing was meant seriously! I love Indian Army and people who follow my activities can trace various events where I was involved to pay my tribute to this people who never compromises with the integrity and security of our country. Anyway I have realized that somehow or other I have hurt the sentiments of Indian Army and I would sincerely like to apologise for that. I am so passionate about army that I made Mission China as an expression of my hidden desire to be a part of it! Love and respect for them!
It may be mentioned that Zubeen played the role of Colonel Goswami in the movie ‘Mission China.’
