Assam Power Minister Pallab Lochan Das has earned lot of flak for his inability to stop the large number of electrocution deaths happening in the state. And now, the most recent drubbing he received in this regard is from ULFA (I) supremo Paresh Baruah. Reportedly, Baruah criticized Das regarding the frequent deaths due to electrocution. He also referred Das as a ‘criminal’ due to his indifferent attitude towards such incidents.
Moreover, ULFA (I) also called many officials and engineers as ‘impotent’ who are incompetent to run the department. Besides this they have also urged the department to provide solar energy to the people and look into the recurring problem of electrocution.
ULFA(I) goes on as far as to compare the entire situation of the electricity department to the infamous ‘Electric Chair’. In their statement, ULFA said that it seems like the entire electricity department has become a death trap for the common people – an electric chair, said the statement.
ULFA further asserted that the amount of royalty India earns in a single year from tea and crude oil is more than enough to replace the old and rusted electric posts and cables with proper aluminum wires which will help in a more safe distribution of electricity among people.
ULFA further mockingly says that a safe and sound electricity department is a far away dream in Assam. Hence, the organization has suggested few alternatives for the people, it has asked people to opt for solar power and moreover people from interior places can even opt for kerosene oil, paraffin and etc to ensure safety.
