Sanjib Dey’s debut feature film ‘III Smoking Barrels’ is set to have its European Premiere in the International Competition section at the 66th International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg, Germany, which will be held on 12th November, 2017. Interestingly enough, it is the first time in 5 years that an Indian film has been selected to be screened at this festival.
The film focuses on Northeast India. It is an anthology of three stories. The first story is about a child involved in armed conflicts. The second is about a boy and his journey in the drug peddling world. The third story is about a man, an elephant poacher. The film is inspired by true events, and features multiple languages namely English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Nagamese and Manipuri.
Produced by Amit Malpani, the film stars well known Bollywood and Tollywood actors like Indraneil Sengupta, Subrat Dutta, Amrita Chattopadhyay and Nalneesh Neel as well as gifted actors from the Northeast like Mandakini Goswami, Rajni Basumatary, Bijou Thaangjam, Niloy Shankar Gupta, Siddhartha Mukherjee, Podmorag Saikia and Chetana Das among others. The film also stars young and exciting newcomers like Shiny Gogoi, Siddharth Boro and Vikram Gogoi.
National Award winner Anurag Saikia has composed the background score in collaboration with Hollywood and Italian music composer Michele Josia. Renowned singer Papon has sung a Borgeet for the film.
Tasadduk Ahmed and Dev Gupta have written the dialogues for the film. Former Femina Miss India finalist Sukalpa Das is the costume designer. Phatik Baruah and Bijou Thaangjam are the art directors. Devabrot Chaliha is the sound designer and Alok De is the sound mixing engineer. The film has been edited by Praveen Kathikuloth. Anil B Akki is the director of photography.
III Smoking Barrels will have its India premiere in the International Film Festival of Kerala, and later, a pan Indian theatrical release in early 2018.
