In an outrageous incident which casts lot of doubt over the safety of wild animals in Assam, a wild elephant was killed by poisoning in Demow. It is said that some miscreants killed the elephant for its meat.
According to the reports, the elephant died after getting poisoned. The police and forest guards failed to reach the site on time, following this, locals cut off the meat from the dead body for consumption leaving the carcass. Of late, there have been rising reports of elephant meat consumption in parts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, reports added.
According to cops, they confirmed that such a thing has happened and the people escaped before police could reach the spot.
