Good news for makers of films in Hindi, English or any ‘foreign’ language; the new tourism policy unveiled by the Assam government in Guwahati on Thursday offers cash incentives up to Rs 1 crore for shooting in the state, provided of course at least 25 per cent of the film is shot here.
‘We want to attract filmmakers from all over to come and shoot in different beautiful locations in Assam. Those who shoot a minimum of 25 per cent of the film in Assam will get a financial grant of up to 25 per cent of the expenditure made in the state, with a ceiling of Rs 1 crore. Those making a film having a storyline on Assam’s culture, tourism or heritage will get 10 per cent more. And if 50 per cent or more of the shooting is done here, then there will be another 10 per cent,’ state Tourism and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Sarma said the BJP-led government was looking at films in Hindi, English and foreign languages as an important medium to carry an invitation to tourists worldwide to visit Assam. ‘Cinema is a very strong medium, and we are sure also willing to provide free accommodation and transportation to important actors of films made by reputed directors and producers,’ Sarma said.
