Assam government has decided to intervene in Odisha government’s decision to demolish ‘Roxoraj’ Laksminath Bezbaruah’s residence in Sambalpur. Naba Doley, Cultural Affairs Minister of Assam will go to Odisha tomorrow to speak to the authorities in Odisha regarding this matter. The residence of Bezbaruah is a huge landmark for the people of Assam as it bears great cultural relevance. Doley informed mediapersons that already Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has sent a mail in this regard to his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik. Chief Minister’s Press Advisor will also accompany Doley.
Bezbaruah had stayed in that residence from September in 1917 to August in 1937. The house based on a plot of 2.70 acres in witness to many legendary literary creations from ‘Roxoraj’. Now, Odisha government wants to demolish this residence in order to build a connecting road. Family members of ‘Roxoraj’ have alleged that none of the governments have tried earnestly to protect this house.
