As Guwahati police has finally managed to nab the culprits responsible for stoning the team bus of Australian cricket team after the T20 match held at Barsapara recently, interesting details about them are coming out now. Interestingly, Manoj Medhi who is the main mastermind in the incident reportedly is a ‘volunteer’ in the FIFA U-17 World Cup matches, as claimed by his family.
Medhi along with Mantu Kalita and two minors threw stones at the Australian team bus which broke the glass and the picture of the shattered glass was shared by Aussie opener Aaron Finch on twitter which gave widespread traction to the incident. They reportedly committed the crime on influence of alcohol.
The four were drinking ‘Imperial Blue’ outside a sweet shop called ‘Gokul Sweets’ in Bamunpara Chowk. They had watched the match on their mobile and were very disappointed with India’s loss. Around 11.30 pm, they saw the bus approaching and Manoj threw a rock targeting it. They fled from the scene then but later Manoj informed his mother about his misdeed. Meanwhile, police informers stationed in the area finally led the cops to the identity of the real culprits though earlier they had wrongly arrested a truck driver-handyman duo named Rakesh Hazowary and Pabitra Khatriya.
Manoj Medhi, who is the main culprit had appeared in the Higher Secondary final year exam from South Guwahati College but failed to pass. One of the other culprit, who is a minor also failed in the Higher Secondary exam from Arya Vidyapith College. Mantu Kalita and the other minor worked in a shop in Lokhra.
