Assamese actress Urmila Mahanta who has earned the adulation of audiences by working in various languages, is now gearing up for the release of her next Hindi movie ‘Viraam.’ ‘Viraam’ touted to be an unusual love story has been directed by Ziaullah Khan. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19 this year.
Speaking about the film in an exclusive conversation with Eclectic Northeast, Mahanta said, ‘ The film is a matured love story with many twists and turns. My character is a young girl who falls in love with a 52 year old businessman played by Narendra Jha. The story encompasses the journey of a lifetime of my character. The film was shot mainly in Dehradun as the story is based there.’
Describing her character, she said, ‘ My character Matun is a simple girl. She knows what she’s doing and what she wants from her life. She is a slightly bold, bubbly and energetic character. As an actor I found the role challenging because I never played this kind of role before. It is a character which has many shades.’
She is sharing screen space in this movie with veteran actor Narendra Jha, known for his performance in movies like ‘Haider’, ‘Raees’ and ‘Kaabil’. Speaking about her experience of working with Jha, she says, ‘ It was lovely working with him. He is a very talented and experienced person. He is also a wonderful human being who is very supportive on set.’
Urmila Mahanta is quite confident about this movie. ‘ It is an entertaining movie with a good story line, good music and beautiful locations. As it is an emotional love story, I am sure people can relate themselves with the characters, emotions and events. This movie is also very commercial,’ she signs off.
