The only hill station in Assam, Haflong is a great place for anyone who is looking to explore nature in its untainted form. Although it has a lot of potential to become a tourism hotspot, it is relatively lesser known among travellers from outside the region. Which is why, in the last few years, a lot of initiatives have been taken to promote the local culture and natural beauty.
This December, ‘Judima Festival’ will be held in Haflong. The main aim would be to showcase the scenic beauty. The name comes from ‘Judima’ which is the traditional rice brew of the Dimasa community. It has a unique taste, and is an integral part of the Dimasa social life.
The festival schedule will include a variety of interesting activities like rock concert, dance performances, ballad singing, storytelling and traditional sports. The organizers will also hold a unity bike rally for brotherhood and peace and a heritage trek along a 19-km strip of an abandoned metre-gauge railway track. For adventure junkies, there will be Borail hill night trekking.
Not only will visitors be able to enjoy song and dance by local residents, they will also be able to indulge in Dimasa delicacies. If you are a foodie, then you should definitely make a point to try the mouth-watering ethnic delicacies. And when you get a little thirsty, reach for a glass of the homemade rice brew that will being a smile to your lips.
The whole idea of festivals like this is to experience the local culture first-hand. If you have never been to Haflong and thinking of taking a trip to this breath-taking destination then you should consider visiting during the length of the festival to truly connect with the place and the people. The festival will be held on December 28-29th.
