The North Cachar Hills Indigenous Students Forum staged a demonstration at Haflong town, the headquarters of Dima Hasao district in south Assam, over the delay in implementation of the Centre’s schemes and other demands on Monday.
According to a report on The Telegraph, the demonstration started at 10am and continued till 2pm near the Haflong deputy commissioner’s office.
The forum also submitted a memorandum to the Dima Hasao deputy commissioner, demanding immediate implementation of the Multi-Sectoral Development Plan (MsDP) works without any political interference, immediate cancellation of the recently reconstituted minority district-level and block-level committees and setting up of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Mahur town as envisaged by the Union ministry of minorities affairs.
David Keivom, the president of the forum, said: ‘The Multi-Sectoral Development Plan is aimed at ensuring an equitable development of the minority communities in the district but since its inception they are deprived owing to the delay in implementation of the schemes. Now, after the lapse of almost five years, the government has approved the schemes. Though the funds were released in November last year, the schemes could not be implemented because of political interference.’
