For the past few days, certain parts of Manipur has been experiencing very cold weather. On November 24, Senapati district headquarter, a hill town located 60 km north of Imphal, recorded 10 degree Celsius but then dropped down to 5.17 degree Celsius on December 4. In Imphal, the minimum temperature dropped from 13.2 degree Celsius to 8.8 degree Celsius on Nov 28 as per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) records at Imphal Airport. On Monday, the minimum temperature recorded in Imphal was 6.2 degree Celsius while the maximum was 23.1 degree Celsius.
According to IMD, similar mercury level will continue till December 7. Locals can expect fog in the morning and clear sky during the day. From December 8, there is a likelihood of cloudy weather and light rain.
Because of the cold weather, the number of visitors at the crowded night plaza has reduced. Most residents have started using charcoal or electric appliances to keep their homes warm at night. The State Authority has changed the timing of Imphal Evenings from 7-10 pm to 6-9 pm.
