25-year-old Ankita Jain is an engineering graduate and a former software developer in Capgemini. She is the founder of Swaglok, the first ever online t-shirt brand in the Northeast that also features customized t-shirts. Before starting Swaglok, she had co-founded PANACHE with friends.
Launched in February 2017, Swaglok aims to channelize creative thinking, and allow people to come up with their own designs.
How did Swaglok came to be?
It all started when a personalised gift for a family member received so much of attention and appreciation that the idea dawned on me that the demand was real and could be channelled. I derived the name from swarglok and fused it with the urban word ‘swag’ and gave it a new meaning; a place for people with confidence in style .
What products do you offer?
We offer a wide range of T-shirts, starting from those in simple colours to multi coloured ones and even glow in the dark ones. We have recently started a line of dog T-shirts for dog owners who want their pet to have a bit of ‘swag’ of their own. We also customize phone covers , posters , coasters and notebooks.
What is the kind of customization you offer?
Literally, anything that you think of and can be visually presented, we’d love to put it on a T-shirt for you! A quote that you find witty, humorous, relatable or any cool design, or album art, favourite characters from movies or TV series, anything and everything!
What is the price range like?
We have simple T-shirt designs on basic colours starting from Rs 499/- and we also offer simple unicolor customization at this price. Multicolored customized ones cost a little more and Glow in the dark Tshirts are for 699/-
Do you deliver all across the Northeast and India?
Yes, we deliver pan India. We frequently get orders from Northeasterners living in different cities. Just because you moved out, doesn’t mean you should miss out on all the good stuff from Swaglok! We want to put a lot of NE elements in our products, a slice of the eight sisters, because that is the roots of Swaglok.
Do you only sell online or do you stock your products in city stores?
We only sell them online .
What is the kind of feedback you have received so far?
It’s mostly positive because we try to deliver the best and often use the hastag #swaglokneverdisappoints to highlight our point.
We have happy customers sending us photos of them wearing T-shirts from Swaglok with a smile on their faces, and it feels good to know that we put it there! And we are always happy to share them on social media. If there’s ever any complaint regarding the product or delivery, we compensate and ensure that it doesn’t happen again.
We make sure our employees are happy and the company runs smoothly, but the product is always at the core. It has to be something that our customers use and love.
What is so unique about Swaglok?
The rebellious teen or the forward-thinking young adult always wants to make a statement and Swaglok T-shirts and products allow our customers to make a statement. We also try to always keep up with the latest trends, and reflect that in our products.
When it comes to customer service, we ensure that people are getting exactly what they expect when they open the delivery package. We have people asking if we can hurry up a little and deliver something in a shorter span of time because it’s a special occasion and we always do our best to make it happen. We don’t mind adding a personal touch; a handwritten note to a winner of a give-away (yes, we do giveaways!) or a loyal customer, or if someone asks us to write something to go with the gift. All these things matter, because we are still growing and it’s important to let people know that they can count on us to make things a little extra special.
Do you plan to expand in the near future?
Yes, the official website www.swaglok.in is releasing soon and we’re hoping that will make it easier for people from all over the country to order from our online store.
