Whenever you tend to travel by train, you are always wondering whether the linen and blankets you are given are clean enough. Many people even tend to carry linen from home in the fear that they will be handed linen that is dirty or haven’t been washed properly. For the convenience of travellers, the Tinsukia division of the NF Railway will soon introduce Radio Frequency Identification Devise tag on linens and blankets.
These tags will allow passengers to monitor electronically stored information. You will be able to access information such as number of times the particular linen or blanket has been washed or not washed, collected or not and so on. It will definitely give passengers some peace of mind while using linen and blankets when they are travelling from one destination to another.
The news was shared during the launch of the newly commissioned state-of-the-art mechanised laundry of 2.5 tonnes capacity (per shift) at Dibrugarh Coaching Depot near the railway station in Banipur.
‘At least 80 employees have been engaged in the laundry work, including packaging. The objective behind installing the laundry machine is to ensure high quality cleaning methods to provide passenger satisfaction with the linen supplied to them. This mechanised laundry is the third in NF Railway apart from New Jalpaiguri and Guwahati,’ said Prashant Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager of Tinsukia division.
The mechanised laundry installed is equipped with four wash extractor, hydro extractor, tumbler driers and three calendaring machines, built in an area of about 1,200 square metres. It is interesting to note that around 8,000 bed sheets, 4,000 pillow covers, and 100 blankets will be cleaned daily.
