Arunachal Pradesh is known for many things, among them are the wonderfully sweet oranges. In fact, the Arunachal Wakro orange has been registered under Geographical Indication Registration. And so, it is no surprise that the oranges from the State are being transported all the way to Dubai.
The first consignment of oranges was recently flagged off from the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to the Indira Gandhi International Airport New Delhi for Dubai. The oranges were from the orchards of progressive orange farmer Todol Pertin of Dambuk in Lower Dibang Valley district.
Oranges from Arunachal were picked up by the exporter M/s Kreamery Kraft of Kolkata after ascertaining market acceptability of the fruit from the Dambuk and Siang belt based on a sample sent to Dubai in November of last year.
Horticultural fruits from Arunachal Pradesh have officially made an entry into the international market under the aegis of the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and active intervention of the State Department of Horticulture.
