Your presence today is a testimony to the fact how Assam has made rapid strides on the path of development and a global investors’ summit of this magnitude is a proof of that growth. Assam isan important part of our Act East Policy. I believe Assam and North Eastern region of our country will catalyse huge economic growth for India by developing trade relations with the ASEAN region by acting as their gateway. The tagline of the summit is thus very appropriate, Advantage Assam – India’s Expressway to ASEAN. ASEAN-India partnership may be only 25 years old but our ties goes 1000 years back and it was an honour to host the heads of these countries on Republic Day. Recently Bangladesh and Bhutan have opened their Consulate offices in Guwahati which gives me immense pleasure as it will only help in exchange of bilateral ties and improve businesses. From Imphal to Guwahati and Kolkata to Bihar the entire eastern region is important. Our Government is spending INR 1300 crore in the restructuring of the National Bamboo Mission and the people who will be most benefitted by this will be from the North Eastern region and traders of Assam. People of Assam have been witness to thrust on infrastructure projects likeDholaSadiya Bridge.I am happy to note that Assam is ranked 1st in the ease of doing business among North Eastern States and I am sure, it will take further strides to become one of the most sought after investment destination within India. North East is the growth engine and we are focussing on the transformation by transportation policy.North East Infrastructure special development scheme has also been approved. We have been spending INR 5,300 crore in Railway infrastructure development in North Eastfor the past three years. 15 new rail lines are being laid in North Eastern States. Proposal has been accepted for 4000 kms of National Highway in North East and INR 90,000 crore more will be spent in the development of roads for better connectivity. A World Class International Airport Terminal building is being constructed in Guwahati to enhance connectivity to the ASEAN countries. Total of 19 airports and 5 helipads are being maintained in North East which will act as a catalyst to the development of tourism in the region. INR 1100 crore is being invested to construct AIIMS in Guwahati. INR 3,000 crore is being spent for laying of gas pipeline by GAIL in Guwahati. I always say, Assam ka Anand, Sarbananda for bringing in business friendly environment in Assam, through new Start up policy, Solar energy policy, IT and Electronic Policy, Biotechnology policy, Handloom policy, Sugar Policy, Sports Policy, Tourism Policy. Guwahati is becoming a business hub and is being developed as a smart city. Once again I congratulate the people of Assam and Government of Assam on successfully conducting such a great summit with fervour. I thank the participating dignitaries present from the ASEAN countries. I am sure the summit is just the beginning and will add a new chapter to our 1000-year-old relation with you.
