The stage is all set for the 26th Naga Style Wrestling, 2018 which will take place at Khuochiezie (Kohima Local Grounds) today. Altogether, 54 wrestlers (18 wrestlers each from Angami, Chakhesang and Zeliang) will vie for the coveted title in Naga style wrestling. The champion of Naga style wrestling will receive a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh while the runners-up will pocket Rs. 2 lakh. The third and fourth place winner will also be awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 80,000 respectively.
The inaugural function was chaired by NWA (Naga Wrestling Association) vice president Mosonyi Domeh. Present champion Vechita Khesoh will be the torch bearer while Chisazo Dawhuo, senior state wrestling coach and technical secretary NWA will administer oath to the wrestlers. The event is being managed by Angami Baptist Khriesarüii Krotho (ABKK) in aid of construction of ABCC Youth Centre at Chumukedima
Former NWA president, Keku Zeliang expressed his happiness over the achievement of NWA year by year. He was confident that the NWA would continue to work hard to build up the potentials of young and talented sportspersons the field of wrestling. ‘There are many good tactics which can be used in Naga style wrestling which can also be applied to free style wrestling,’ he said. ‘Our Naga traditional wrestling is not only a game of competition but fosters many good values like friendship and unity among the different groups’, he added. He also said that the game encourages wrestlers to be disciplined, hardworking, skilled and committed.
