In Manipur, the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation recently declared that it has identified 15 different places in the State for cultivation of chia and quinoa. The idea behind this is not only to help local farmers and cultivators earn a livelihood but in addition to that, it will also be aimed at controlling poppy cultivation and jhum cultivation in hill slopes.
