It is no secret that Sikkim is an organic State but there are people who are still consuming non-organic commodities to this date. In order to encourage people to switch to organic goods and healthier produce, the Sikkim Government has decided to restrict the sale of certain non-organic agricultural and horticultural commodities. The list contains 27 items in total; some of the items on the list are maize, beans, banana, guava, etc.
Although no date for enforcement of the ban has been stated, it is likely to come into effect by March 31. Once the ban is in effect, if the 27 mentioned commodities are found in stores across the State, they will be seized and disposed of.
