Soon after the installation of the new cabinet in Meghalaya, initial step has been taken to start the works of 2022 National Games. Meghalaya sports minister on Wednesday handed over the National Games 2022 – Host City contract to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in the presence of officials of Meghalaya State Olympic Association and officials of Sports Department.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that it is an opportunity for the state to facelift the sports infrastructure of the state. He also said that the National Games 2022 should be taken up as an agenda to develop different segments like to build tourism, marketing of the state and development of sports culture in Meghalaya.
The news has been stated in a Chief Minister’s Office communiqué soon after Meghalaya’s sport’s Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh handed over the contract to the CM. The mega sports event will coincide with the 50th year of Meghalaya’s statehood. An estimated 14,450 athletes and officials are expected to visit the state during the Games according to official records.
