The Agartala Book Fair, celebrating its 36th year, is currently underway. This year, the theme is Cultural Diversity of Tripura. It was inaugurated by Governor Tathagata Roy in the presence of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. The main idea behind the book fair is to encourage the young generation to read printed books. The fair will comprise 124 stalls in total, out of which 39 have been allocated to publishers from Kolkata and five for Guwahati-based publishers. Another great news for book lovers is that 10 percent discount will be offered on purchases.
As part of the Agartala Book Fair, the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya national integration award will also be awarded for outstanding contribution in the field of social service. Another new award in the name of Kalikinkar Debbarma, an eminent lyricist of the State, will be given for outstanding contribution in the field of classical music.
