Founder of Pen Twister, Nikita Manchanda was recently presented with the prestigious Aparajita – Saluting Womanhood Award for outstanding contribution in the field of blogging. The idea of starting something first came to her when she was based out of Sikkim. Initially it was just a hobby but over time Pen Twister became a full-time company specializing in fashion, food, and travel and lifestyle brands. Currently, Nikita and Pen Twister for that matter are based out of Kolkata. We speak to Nikita to know more about her wonderful journey so far.
How has Pentwister grown over the years and what more do you want to do in the coming years?
In last 6 years, PenTwister has seen a major shift. From working for personal interest to being a social influencer and brand consultant. I had studied food for 8 years and fashion was a part-time subject but still I started by talking only about fashion. Then I wanted to make use of my experience in food and marketing industry, and explored food blogging as well as creating bloggers meet for brands. Hosting bloggers meet and travel blogging was one of the best decisions for PenTwister. From handling everything single-handedly to hiring interns, Pentwister has really grown as a company.
In coming years, PenTwister aims to continue to grow and expand into finance, real estate, technology and focus vastly on travel blogging.
Challenges would be lack of awareness; a large section of people still do not understand blogging. We also have to spend time educating people and brands about how blogging can help their business.
As for advantages, Influencer marketing in India is new and booming right now, hence it is the right space to be a part of. Blogging makes you socially popular. Another good things about being a blogger is getting a preview of newly launched store/brand/restauant before the general public.
Do you think having Northeast connection sets you apart from other bloggers out there?
Yes, I definitely think being a Northeastern blogger not only sets me apart but also gives me an edge over other bloggers. I have followers with unique identification and taste. I have a picturesque feed. I am also surrounded by stories that are culturally inspired. Lastly, I adore the connection and love.
What do you love most about blogging?
I love how it helps me broaden my horizon and gives me an opportunity to be a jack-of-all-trades. One day, I am a fashion influencer and the next day, I am giving a lecture on why writing is important.
How often do you blog and how long does it take to put together one post?
I would love to write one blog each day, however with series of city events and social media campaigns, I only manage to write 1-2 blogs a week. PenTwister believes in storytelling. At times, I have finish writing a blog post in 2 hours and sometimes it takes weeks. It all depends on how extensive the subject is, what kind of research is involved etc.
However, to give an estimate, a fashion blog might take up to 3 days of work (including editing of images) whereas a travel blog might easily take up to 10 days.
What’s next for Pentwister?
Next is change. Next is prosperity. Next is to be on top of the brilliant world of blogging.
