Agriculture Minister Somnath Poudyal and Urban Development Minister N.K. Subba recently inaugurated Kishan Bazaar located near Lal Bazaar, Gangtok. This market complex, constructed by the State government, is aimed at local organic farmers and offer them a place to sell their farm produce.
In the past, local farmers have faced the issue of not being able to find a proper space where they can put their produce on display for customers to browse and buy. This market complex will not only make it easier for locals to buy local organic produce but it also aims to improve the living standards of the hard-working farmers.
Although the complex is not fully ready, the farmers will be able to sell their produce in the two floors that can accommodate up to 200 sellers. Urban Development Minister N.K. Subba also stated that similar markets will be constructed in different locations across the State as well.
