Due to her poor family background, Ningthoujam Radharani, the topper of Arts stream in the recently declared Council of Higher Secondary Examination Manipur (COHSEM) 2018 today, said she had managed her studies by her own since class VI. She also revealed that she did not take any external tuition besides her normal classes from school but from her sincere effort to excel in the examination.
In a tell-all to journalists today at her Lilong Chajing Chingkhong Leikai, Imphal West residence today, she said she wished and will aim to see herself as an IAS officer or a social scientist in the next five to six years down the line. Citing that change can be brought only when one has power in hand, she said the present Manipur society has many bottlenecks that needs to be changed. When asked in which area she wants to bring the changes, she said no area can be specified as present situation requires equal attention.
Her father, N. Mohendro Singh says, ‘She has always been the brightest among my 6 daughters and also had strived of her own. She has managed to get up to this level all through scholarships and free education from schools.’ He further stated that he will support his daughter in whatever his daughter has chosen to do and will not impose his will to his daughters. Her mother, Bimola Devi is the main breadwinner of the family and manages her family with her income from vending in a tea stall. She commented on her daughter’s success that she has never felt insecure even if she could not give birth to a son. ‘We are content with our 6 daughters and today, her achievement has made it more so,’ she added.
When asked about her reaction of getting the news of her getting the top rank for statewide higher secondary examination in Arts stream, she said she could not believe at first as her classmate informed her. She first thought it was a joke but when others started congratulating her, she realized she had got the top position in class 12 examination in arts stream.
