Manipur becomes the first state in the Northeast and third state in India to have solar toilets, inaugurated at Ibudhou Marjing hill Heingang, by Tourism Director, Waikhom Ibohal.
W Ibohal said that he met an entrepreneur while attending a global summit in Guwahati recently where he was introduced to the technology of solar toilets. He immediately thought of using such toilets in Manipur.
The founder, Ravikas Maitri Ravi Senji, along with a dealer in Manipur came together and worked on setting up such solar toilets on trial basis in the State. The solar panel connected to the toilets absorb the heat to generate power. It is also efficient to transform waste material as claimed by the founder.
W Ibohal mentioned that if the initial projects are successful then he might install such solar toilets in almost all tourist spots across the State.
Ravi Senji, based in Chennai, said that this is his third project that has been installed in Manipur.Before, installation took place in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. He plans to install 100 units in Manipur before 2nd October. He also expressed that he is trying to install solar toilets in neglected places and public places for the safety and hygiene of the public.
