Liyai Khullen village (Poumai) observed the 100th ‘Naga labour corps to France’ on 12th May at Liyai Khullen village under Senapati district.
On the occasion, Chief Guest, L Dikho, honored the 32 brave individuals of the village who walked from the Liyai Khullen village to Dimapur as a sign of sacrifice, pride and achievement; Liyai Khullen village had sent the maximum number of individuals from the district. The village set a good example of sending the maximum number of individuals to France.
Naga Hoho president Chuba Ozukum in his address as guest of honour stated that sending labour corps to France was a great sign of sacrifice by the Nagas. Many Naga labour corps even died on the way to France and on their way back, due to various diseases.
Chuba reminded the gathering that sending Naga labour corps to France during 1917 was a blessing in disguise as the Nagas learnt and realized the need for unity which was an eye opener for the Nagas to come together and form the historic Naga club.
The chief guest and guest honour unveiled the monolith where the names of the 32 labour corps were engraved; tree saplings were also planted.
