A new film was announced at a function held in the premises of the Pabitra Kumar Deka Archive, located in Pub-Sarania, Guwahati recently. The function was graced by distinguished litterateur Homen Borgohain, who said that Assamese cinema is presently enjoying a fair degree of maturity and success, which really augurs well for the movie industry. ‘The favourable climate has opened doors for filmmakers to make films with diverse themes’, said Borgohain, adding that audiences will discover a unique concept in this new movie.
The film, titled ‘Ji Galpar Shesh Nai’, is in fact, a collaborative venture involving three filmmakers, Prodyut Kumar Deka, Utpal Datta and Prasant Saikia. It showcases three different tales, integrated into a single whole. While the stories by Deka and Datta are based on or are inspired by the works of famous French writers, Honore de Balzac and Guy de Maupassant respectively, Saikia’s work is based on Homen Borgohain’s short story ‘Epitaph’, which the litterateur described as ‘infamous’ during his speech. It’s not the first time that Homen Borgohain’s work has been adapted to screen. His works have been made into critically acclaimed movies like Gouri Barman’s ‘Hridayar Prayujon’ and Jahnu Barua’s ‘Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai’.
The script of ‘Ji Galpar Shesh Nai’ has been written by Prodyut Kumar Deka, Prasant Saikia and Ranjit Sarma. The film’s logo and title are illustrated by the well-known artiste from Bengal, Saurish Mitra. The poster will be designed by Sri Lankan fine arts artiste and filmmaker Elekha Rupathirana. The music will be composed by Kishour Giri, cinematography will be handled by Ratul Barman and make-up will be done by Babi Chakravorty. The sound designing will be done by Debojit Gayan, and editing will be carried out by Sanjib Talukdar.
Currently being shot in Guwahati and its outskirts, the film stars Himangshu Prasad Das, Kalpana Kalita, Pankaj Mahanta, Deepjyoti Kakati, Debika Priyam, Hiranya Das, Hemanta Debnath, Simanta Barma, Nandini Boruah, etc.
The film has been produced by Arc Light, R-N Studio, UD Foundation and Meghna Creation’s Mihir Goswami (part associate). Anupam Hazarika is the adviser and Utpal Datta is the still photographer. The shooting will be completed in three schedules.
