Aambra Foundation held the 7th Edition of its tri-annual seminar, She Speaks at Royal Global University, Assam. The seminar titled ‘Does Gender Equality depends on area and Environment’ shed light at the issues concerning gender equality and marginalization of a segment of population through real life incidents and perspectives.
The seminar included a panel discussion between Indrani Deb, Philanthropist & Entrepreneur; Tanushree Hazarika, Entrepreneur & Festival Director, Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival; Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, IPS Addl. DGP, Government of Assam and Dr. Anwesa Mahanta, Sattriya dance exponent. The panel was moderated by Vinita Bakshi, Author and Founder of She Speaks. The discussion was followed by a dance performance by Rudro Jayanta Bhagwati and Pranaame Bhagawati along with Amrapali Repertory.
Speaking at the seminar, Indrani Deb, Former President of FICCI Flo NE chapter, said, ‘I feel I am lucky to be born in Assam. Yes, gender disparity does exist but much less here. Only economic empowerment will lead to gender equality regardless of the area and environment.’
Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Addl. DG, Assam Police, also shared his thoughts saying, ‘Sattriya dance stresses on balancing masculinity and femininity in each individual. And Indian art-forms are a great way to enhance gender equality’.
