A book reading session at the office of Northeast Writer’s Forum in Guwahati on 28th of June by author Vinita Bakshi gave a lucid overview of the novel. The interaction was moderated by Rakhi Kalita Moral, Associate Professor of English at Cotton University. The audience included faculty from various colleges, students and entrepreneurs. The audience shared their personal experiences on the subject matter of the novel. The interactive session reflected on the gender discourse in India. The debut said that the sequel of the novel is in the making as the first novel concluded with open ended questions.
The moderator described, ‘The book is breezy and keeps one engaged. It does justice to the stories of virtual world today.’ On being asked about the experience of publishing her first book Vinita Bakshi said, ‘Well, it takes time after the submission of the final draft of a novel to get published. But, as debut author, the wait was pretty exciting.’
‘31 Miles’ is a book defining the relationships of people on the physical and virtual world and the extent of it and also its consequences. The story revolves around a woman who finds her own value after marriage. Will she give it all up for the elusive mirage created by the stranger? What turn will her life take next?
The author, Vinita Bakshi is an-award winning sociologist and social entrepreneur, an alumnus of prestigious Delhi School of Economics. She has founded a non-profit organization-AAMBRA Foundation, with a vision towards women empowerment and skill development.
