The global taxi services – OLA and UBER has decided to start operating for the first time in Tripura. The taxi services are presently functional in some of the states in Northeast India; it is especially in high demand in the metropolitan city of Guwahati.
The services proposed to be provided by the two global giants include pre-paid auto and taxi service at Agartala airport, railway station and to and fro services at some other selected destinations.
The secretary in the Department of Transport, Government of Tripura, Debamita Kilikdar has summoned a meeting for all concerned to discuss the issue in her official chamber on June 23 at 11:00 am. Sources in the Transport Department shared that all issues pertaining to the introduction and smooth continuance of the service will be discussed in the meeting.
It is to be mentioned that, homegrown cab-hailing company Ola had inked MoU with Government of Assam to pilot an app-based river taxi service in Guwahati in February of this year.
But all has not been smooth sailing in the last couple of months as recently the Ola and Uber cab drivers in Guwahati went on a three day strike against their respective companies demanding proper incentives and other financial benefits.
