Manipur’s Kamala Devi has been named the Woman Footballer of the Year by All India Football Federation (AIFF). Sunil Chhetri was chosen by the AIFF as the Best Male Footballer for the year. Devi plays for Eastern Sporting Union, while Chhetri play for Bengaluru FC.
Kamala Devi was part of the Indian team that won the SAFF Championship in 2010, 2012 and 2014. At the 2012 tournament, she was awarded the Best Player title in the final for scoring seven goals. At the 2014 Asian Games, she scored five goals in India’s first match against Maldives. Moreover Devi was the top-scorer at the 2016 South Asian Games from India.
Inspirational captain Sunil Chhetri recently became the second Indian footballer to play 100 international games after Bhaichung Bhutia. Chhetri is a star striker for both India and Bengaluru FC.
Young Anirudh Thapa, who had impressed everyone with his performance in the four-nation Intercontinental Cup which India won, was declared as the 2017 Emerging Player of the Year.
