In a friendly football match played between India and Malaysia in the U-16 category, Manipur’s Givson Singh Moirangthem scored the final goal registering a 2-1 win against the Malaysian team at the Petaling Jaya Stadium in Selangor. Before that, the U-16 Indian boys had been defeated by Malaysia 3-0.
The Indian junior team is in Malaysia to prepare for the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) U-16 Championship. The Championship will be held in Malaysia in September.
Rohit Danu scored the first goal for India through a penalty in 21st minute of the first half. Givson scored the goal for India at the 31st minute of the first half and earned huge applause. His dominance in midfield was appreciated by the audience.
The young Indian brigade dominated most of the play but Malaysia were not giving up and almost went on to convert an opportunity in the 38th minute but missed the target. India went into the break with a two-goal lead and kept pressure on Malaysia in the second half. Malaysia reduced the margin during the injury time of the second half.
Givson Singh Moirangthem is a midfielder and currently plays for Minerva Punjab FC.
