Two women cricketers from Meghalaya have been selected for a Chennai Cricket Tournament. Daiaka Emigale Warjri and Deiphibapynshngain L Mawnai of Meghalaya Cricket Association have been selected for the Bihar team to participate in the inter-zonal under-19 one-day tournament, which will be held in Chennai from July 16 to 25.
Both the cricketers are from West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association. MCA secretary, Naba Bhattacharjee expressed his confidence that the selection would give a much-needed impetus to women’s cricket in the State.
Bhattacharjee said that MCA is hopeful that schools will come forward to encourage the young cricketers. ‘We are ready to provide assistance to serious interventions by educational institutes and affiliated district associations.’
He also added that the BCCI has also raised the match fee and a player representing the State in a particular age group can receive a minimum of Rs 50,000 in a season besides availing dearness allowance, free air travel, and accommodation.
Also, the All-India Junior Selection Committee has picked Akash Kumar Choudhury of Meghalaya Cricket Association for the under-19 national camp to be conducted at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru, from July 30 to August 23.
