In order to promote local food products of Northeastern states, several entrepreneurs are coming up with business ideas to expand the market of indigenous food products on a global platform. One such business enterprise that is working to promote Nagaland’s organic food products globally is ‘Saucy Joe’s’.
The start-up has sold varieties of organic pickles, jams, spices and sauces to food companies across the nation and has received appreciation and accolades from many investors from abroad. When asked about the company’s objective and its current plan, Saucy Joe’s Chef, Joel Basumatary said that the idea to promote local food made in Nagaland.
‘We are working to increase the demands of our local foods and it can be possible through more and more promotion of our products. We started our start-up with an initial funding of 3-5 lakhs. We are working at a small scale right now.’
The start-up adopts organically cultivates products to enhance their market and to improve the quality of the products, Basumatary also stated that no artificial chemicals or flavour are used and that all the local ingredients are being sourced from villages like Mokukchung, Wokha and Tongam in Nagaland.
