Sikkim Olympic Association (SOA) president, BK Roka has been nominated as an observer of India Olympic Association (IOA) for the upcoming 18th Asian Games. The games will be held from 18 August to 2 September at Jakarta, Palembang, Indonesia. Roka is also the Member of Executive Council of IOA.
Likewise, Boxing Federation of India has also nominated SOA general secretary Jaslal Pradhan as a technical observer in the Asian Games 2018. Sikkim Olympics Association expressed that it was a very proud moment both for the Sikkim Olympic Association fraternity as well as for Sikkim. The Association further said that the experience garnered by them would be especially beneficial while hosting the upcoming State Games which will be held for the very first time in Sikkim.
For the first time, the Asian Games are being co-hosted by two cities; the Indonesian capital of Jakarta and Palembang, the capital of the South Sumatra province. Events will be held in and around both cities, including venues in Bandung and province of West Java and Banten.
Also, for the first time, eSports and canoe polo will be contested as demonstration sports. eSports is expected to be a medal event at the 2022 Asian Games.
