In a proposal to popularize bamboo as a super construction material, a mobile app on bamboo housing and construction called ‘BAMTECH’ was launched recently by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein in Itanagar. Mein said that Arunachal Pradesh is a storehouse of bamboo resources with the highest bamboo reserves in entire NE region with 74 species of bamboo. Hence, a solution for full utilization of bamboo should be looked into and that the usage should not remain limited.
The application holds essential features providing information regarding the usage of bamboo for housing, construction, making of furniture and manufacture of quality products, etc. BAMTECH has been developed by South Asia Bamboo Foundation under the sponsorship of Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council, Ministry of Urban Housing and Urban Affairs.
The founder and CEO of the South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SABF), Kamesh Salam highlighted the functions of the application. The advantage of the app is to promote bamboo housing under PMAY (Prime Ministers Awaas Yojna), homestay housing, tourist cottages, etc.
To create a niche for bamboo in eco-tourism in the country, a workshop cum training on ‘Building with Bamboo’ will be organised at Namsai from 24th October to 2nd November. The workshop will be conducted by renowned bamboo designer and expert on bamboo housing, Jorg Stamm a German national from Columbia. Participants from different parts of India including from SAARC Nations, Bhutan and Sri Lanka are expected to attend the program.
