A nutrition surveillance system to ensure that the beneficiaries in Mawphlang get the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) was launched at Mawngap in Meghalaya. The project is the digitization of the ICDS Reporting System under the National Nutrition Mission. Meghalaya was chosen, along with two other states, in the country to implement the initiative. The system comprises a mobile application and an analytic system to monitor the growth of every eligible child, pregnant women and adolescent girls.
Local MLA, Sunn, hoped that the digitization of ICDS Reporting System under the National Nutrition Mission will address stunting, under-nutrition, anaemia and low birth weight. As part of the Information Communication Technology (ICT), a solution to combat malnutrition was initiated by the Centre with the mobile-based system that helps with real-time growth monitoring of every child.
The Centre’s plan, through this project, is to map various schemes addressing malnutrition. The features include introducing a very robust convergence mechanism, ICT-based real-time monitoring system and incentivising Anganwadi workers for using IT-based tools. Also, it aims at introducing measurement of the height of children at Anganwadi centres, social audits and setting up nutrition resource centres, involving masses through Jan Andolan for their participation in nutrition through various activities.
