Rubber plantation in Tripura had a huge impact on the population and it would also influence the economy of the State in the past. But with the fall in the price, common people have been forced to shift their cultivation to other modes. With the inauguration of the first ever processing centre for best quality rubber sheets, the production is expected to rise again. The centre was inaugurated at Saraspur Sarla road in North Tripura on Friday.
The unique processing centre aims to produce the best quality rubber sheets to generate better income. Three organizations Saraspur RPS, Manimalayar Rubbers Pvt. Ltd. and Harsha Consortium are behind the same. A total of 20 labourers have been engaged at the unit along with seven female labourers who will help produce a total of 1.5 tons of rubber on a daily basis. The high-quality rubber sheets will be exported to states like Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi.
Traditionally, rubber is a tropical crop. In 1963, rubber plants were introduced by the Forest Department under the State government. For cultivating rubber, the hot and humid climate is highly suitable.
