Ministry of Rural Development was awarded West Jaintia Hills for effective implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme at a function held at Vidhan Bhavan, New Delhi. Block Development Officer, FB Basan of the Jaintia Hills, expressed that they were happy to be amongst the 18 districts of the country for proper implementation of the scheme. ‘The award was given to the district in recognition of its performance and key initiatives, which have been taken up by DRDA through the block offices.’
DM Wallang, the Projection Director (DRDA), dedicated the award to the DRDA and block team for their tireless efforts and also to every VEC functionary and job card holder for their committed dedication in the implementation of the true spirit of MGNREGS.
Wallang stated that the collaboration and union of projects with line departments of agriculture, horticulture, fishery, veterinary, PHE, forest, social welfare, and basin development has also marked a turning point in the effective implementation of MGNREGS. ‘We looked into all aspects like poverty reduction, livelihood improvement, infrastructural development, afforestation, sanitation and health, etc. that included in the rural development agenda which gave us the recognition.’
