Bollywood actor and owner of Indian Super League (ISL) franchise NorthEast United FC, John Abraham said that Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has promised to help his football club look for land in Shillong to start the club’s academy. John also expressed his excitement for the 2022 National Games to be held in Meghalaya.
John said that the idea is to open up academies all over the Northeast. Presently there is one in Guwahati, and one that will most likely come up in Shillong. For the future, they are planning for more in Imphal, Aizawl and other state capitals across the region.
John along with Sangma and All India Football Federation Vice President Larsing Ming Sawyan were present at the finals of the inter-school girl’s football match played between Nongkrem Presbyterian Secondary School and Nongkrem Higher Secondary School at Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex at the Polo Grounds.
On Northeast United FC’s performance in the Indian Super League, John said that they were disappointed and sad that they had to let go of their coach in the middle of the season last year. They are looking for a better season this time and will enter the games with zero expectations.
